Leah Mayor, Ph.D.

Dr. Mayor acts as a Principal with Taking Root, blending her dedication to learning, passion for traveling, and love of cheese, to design artisanal adventures that promote sustainable community development and change people’s lives. She spent 3.5 years living in Nepal,
Tibet, and Mongolia designing and delivering community based tourism programs
and conducting research for her doctorate at Cornell University. After lecturing
in education, a brief stint in corporate consulting led her to the Cloud
Institute and the No Impact Project. Working
at the crossroads of learning and social change, Mayor is passionate about
designing and delivering innovative programs that directly contribute to connecting
individuals with their communities. She re-imagines the student-school-community
relationship, affording communities new ways to learn together for a sustainable
future.
Jennifer Galvin, Sc.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Galvin – filmmaker, scientist, educator and entrepreneur – uses her background
in public health and environmental science to inform her work. Galvin holds a Sc.D. in environmental health from the Harvard School of Public Health, a M.P.H.
in environmental epidemiology from Yale University, and a B.S. in aquatic biology
from Brown University. She was selected to AFI's 2004 Catalyst Workshop for science storytelling and screenwriting, and
to the 2006 Pan Caribbean Project for Environmental Film and Wildlife Documentaries
Residency held at EICTV, Cuba. She
is the co-founder of reelblue, LLC,
a media production company specializing in stories about global health and the
environment. From short videos to feature films and books, her award winning work at the intersection of art and science
pushes the craft of storytelling to educate and inspire. |

Sachi Cunningham, M.J.

Cunningham is a staff video journalist
at the Los
Angeles Times.
Prior to working at the Times, Cunningham produced, shot and edited Emmy Award
winning international news documentaries for broadcast and the web, reporting
throughout Asia, the Middle East and Latin America for outlets including PBS
FRONTLINE, FRONTLINE/World, 60 Minutes, Al Jazeera, Current TV, and the Discovery
Channel. Cunningham’s work has been recognized by numerous awards
ranging from a 2008 Webby Award for a story about sex trafficking in Dubai
to a 2009 best short win at the New York Surf Film Festival for a story about
pulp pollution in Chile. She received a Masters in Journalism (M.J.) in documentary
production from the University of California at Berkeley and a Bachelor of
Arts (B.A.) in history from Brown University. Prior to journalism school,
she worked for Academy Award Winning Director/Producer/Writer Barry Levinson
and actress Demi Moore. Cunningham is also an avid surf photographer,
whose work has been showcased in various publications including the State of
the Beach report for the Surfrider Foundation and Surfer Magazine.
